The lyrics to that Twisted Sister song convey a very similar emotion that I felt a couple days ago when it happened again. This was the last straw. As usual, I was working on FireFox with about gazillion tabs open. One of them was a blog post and another one was an eBay listing. Both of them were in the making and had not been saved yet. It’s too bad that my browser crashed when I opened a PDF file … Curses!
Many computer users like myself put up with that same crap everyday. It’s high time that we actually do something about it and stop subjecting ourselves to the instability of Adobe Acrobat and browser window integration! Think of the emails! Won’t somebody think of the half-written emails that have been lost in “illegal operations!?”
There are two ways we can put Acrobat Reader back in its place, which is the Start Menu.
The first way involves completely disabling the browser plug-in/extension/applet. This is by far the easiest method. Just open Acrobat Reader (I use version 8.0). Go to “Edit” on the top menu bar. Click “Preferences.” Select the “Internet” category. And finally, uncheck the “Display PDF in browser” option.
However, there are some people who like Acrobat Reader integration in their browser … sometimes. I can’t imagine why they would want that. But for that crowd, the second way lets you achieve both stability and integration. Try the PDF Download FireFox extension. Whenever FireFox is instructed to open a *.PDF file, this nifty extension steps in and asks you if you want to “Download It,” “Open PDF,” or “View as HTML.”
What about IE users? Sorry, but your only solution is the first method listed above. Better switch to FireFox right? Please feel free to leave any comments, suggestions, or questions below.

rather than get another extension for this just change the mime setting for to pdf to download
