Every time I help my dad with his computer he always has me look away as he cautiously and paranoically types his username and password. Then he jokes in a FOB-like voice, “You already know my password hah?” In reply, I always tell him that I don’t need to look at the keyboard to capture his login information. All I really need is a connection to his network.

In my ISOBuster article, I wrote about how to rip *.ISO files from CDs and DVDs. If you used ISOBuster to do that with a protected DVD – which includes virtually all video and movie DVDs – you would have been greatly disappointed. In fact, if you ran the *.ISO file on a virtual disk or burned DVD, you would see something similar to the garbled mess below.

So many milestones have happened since I last wrote about DRM-stripping with Hymn. For one, Apple plugged the iTunes hole that Hymn exploited in its iTunes 6 release. Later on, a talented cracker by the name of “igorsk” revealed an exploit program for the iTunes 6 DRM. Apple responded by patching that hole with its next release of iTunes 7. Then miraculously – less than a day later – igorsk cracked the FairPlay iTunes 7 DRM!
